Story of the Stolen Truck

Our week started off like any other week. Until Thursday. I got up went to school like normal and I got a call from Spruce asking me if I saw his truck when I left for school that morning. I racked my brain and thought I had seen it but simply could not remember. (How can I not remember if his truck was parked next to my car or not? How nonobservant am I?) He proceeded to tell me that it was not there. He got off the phone with me so he could call the police. Our truck was stolen. This nice, new to us, truck was stolen right out in front of our apartment. We ended up getting a rental car that day (a really nice Chevy Trailblazer, that made the situation a little better) and waited for the police not to find it. I found out later that day that 3 cars and 1 motorcycle had been stolen the same night as ours was. We figured these guys got the cars and had probably already stripped them down and there was nothing left. Then Friday night at 11:00 pm we get a call from the Houston Police Department saying they had found the truck. We were shocked but were still wondering what kind of shape it was in. Did the take the cd player, all of Spruce's cds, checkbook and bible? Or did they just take it for a joy ride? On Saturday we went and got it, and the only damage was a popped lock on the passenger's side and all our possessions were still inside. What are the chances??! We did have to pay to get it out of the impound lot, but it's completely drivable and still in good shape. We will still have to deal with the insurance company for weeks to come but we are just happy to have our paid off truck back and not have to pick up another car payment. After the whole thing you just think back and feel so violated. How could someone come to where you live and take something that doesn't belong to them? It's a lifestyle I just don't understand.

This is us at the impound lot last night picking up the truck.

On a much lighter note we spent the afternoon yesterday at my school for their Fall Carnival. At the carnival they have raffle prizes that you can buy tickets for. They have all kinds of little prizes and then they had several big things that cost a little more to enter to win. The big prizes were a signed Lance Burkman bat, signed Andre Johnson jersey and a signed Craig Biggio batters helmet. Well Craig is my FAVORITE Astro. So I had to put a couple of tickets in for that drawing. I only put in 3 tickets which was not that many compared to how many people had bought tickets for it and I WON! I was so excited. I don't exactly know where I am going to put a batters helmet, but I think Spruce and I decided that if we have a boy we will definitely have to have a baseball room and put it in there!

Anytime someone does something like that you feel so very violated. The week after we were married, both of our cars had the windows smashed in and sound-systems stolen. It was awful!

Oh, and you probably didn't notice if the truck was there or not because you have a case of what I like to call "baby brain." I have never felt so stupid or absent-minded since becoming pregnant.

That is so awesome that you won the helmet! I love stories like that. And I am so glad that the truck story ended happy. I hope all is well!
